New ONC Coordinator Comments on Privacy & Security
In case you missed it, Farzad Mostashari, M.D., was recently rec recently interviewed on April 28, 2011 by Howard Anderson, Executive Editor, HealthcareInfoSecurity.com. The new head of the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology, a division of HHS that works nationwide to encourage and implement the proper use of HIT and electronic exchanges of health information addressed privacy and security.
"We need to ensure and maintain the public's trust in health information systems and the exchange of their health information," says Farzad Mostashari, the new national coordinator for health information technology.
A key to the success of widespread implementation of electronic health records, as well as health information exchanges, is to build public confidence that the information is secure and their privacy rights are protected, Mostashari said.
